The Great British Food Festival Dalkeith Country Park is arriving in Edinburgh this summer for an incredible family festival full of food and fun
From the 15th to the 16th of June 2024, Dalkeith Country Park will be host to the Great British Food Festival!
Feast your eyes on a family day out that has something for everyone, from food, to live music, kids activities and even something for the dogs! There really are so many things to do in Edinburgh's big food festival.
Here's a sneak peak of some of the foodie fun going on at Dalkeith Country Park this year:
- Artisan Market: From chocolate to chutney and cheese to chili sauce, there's a huge selection of tasty treats that's bound to prove a terrific time for your tastebuds.
- Street food: Whether its tacos, pastas, burgers, hot dogs or curries that you're looking for, you won't be disappointed tasting the festival's super street food. Every trader is rated a 5-Star hygiene rating!
- Chef Demos: Chefs from all over will be giving cooking demonstrations on their favourite meals so you can learn the ways of becoming a master chef too!
- Bake Stage: Join the Fabulous Sandy D from Great British Bake-Off on the Bake Stage this year. She's ready to entertain you with some fabulous recipes and top tips!
- BBQ Stage: Expect lots of smoke and tasty tips throughout the day as you become a barbie king or barbie queen with the exciting new BBQ stage program!
- Food Challenges: It's man and woman vs food on the Challenge Stage! From dessert showdowns, to sausage eat-offs and the fiery chilli challenge, these foody contests are a must-see.
- Cake Off: Over 800 cakes have been cut, tasted and deliberated, but only one can be the winner... Make sure not to miss the fiercely competitive Cake Off.
- Foraging Walks: Embark on a guided walk around the site and forage for goodies with edible, medicinal and even cosmetic uses.
- Kids Cookery: Little ones are in for a treat when they learn how to cook some new recipes. For 30-40 minutes, kids can cook up some Rocky Road Truffles or Peppermint & Orange Pebbles to take home.
- Viking Village: Exclusive to Edinburgh, explore an authentic Viking society and learn medieval skills such as wool dyeing, cloth weaving and tapestry, leather working, ‘bodging’, brewing, rope making and the use of natural medicines.

Getting to Dalkeith Country Park
By car
The park entrance is less than five minutes from Edinburgh City By-pass. The main vehicle entrance is King’s Gate, a left turn shortly after Sheriffhall Roundabout on the A6106. The Park postcode is EH22 1ST or you can find it on what3words at feeds.soak.oven. Please be aware this entrance has a height restriction of 2.7m so you’ll need to enter via Town Gate if you're driving a larger vehicle.
Cars can also enter and must exit The Park via Town Gate which can be found on Dalkeith High Street. Postcode for your Sat Nav is EH22 2NA. The What3words for this entrance are uptown.cactus.takeovers.
By bus
If you’re travelling from Edinburgh to Dalkeith, jump on a Lothian Bus no. 3, 33 or 49 to Dalkeith High Street. Dalkeith Country Park is then a short five to 10 minutes walk away.
By train
There are regular trains from the borders and Edinburgh City Centre to Eskbank Station, a 25-minute walk from the park. Or jump on the no. 40 Lothian Bus from the station to Dalkeith High Street. From Dalkeith High Street it’ll take about five to 10 minutes to walk to the park.
By foot
The main pedestrian entrance to the park is Town Gate (postcode EH22 2NA). You can then follow the footpath into the park.
By bike
We recommend you cycle to the park through Town Gate, off the A6094 or Smeaton Gate, which is closest to the National Cycle Route.

The Great British Food Festival is dog-friendly.
Please note that all dogs must remain on a lead at all times and that owners must clean up after their dogs.
For hygiene reasons and the enjoyment of all visitors, dogs are not permitted into the food marquees/demonstration tents and/or most of the Estate buildings, so please bear this in mind when deciding whether or not to bring your furry friend with you.
Please note the visitor requiring a carer to attend with them, MUST be able to bring with them and show to the entrance team one form of valid, in date documentation, from their accepted list below, in order for the carer to be admitted for free on the day:

Unfortunately blue/orange badges, HANDS cards and carers passport are not valid ID for carers.
It is politely requested that you do not bring your own food and drink, so please leave your picnics back at home.
