The Tall Ship Glenlee

Step aboard The Tall Ship Glenlee, a magnificent three-masted barque with a rich history in Scotland!

Launched from the Bay Yard in Port Glasgow on December 3, 1896, Glenlee was built for Archibald Sterling & Co. Just ten days later, she set sail for Liverpool, where she loaded up with cargo and embarked on an adventurous journey around Cape Horn to Portland, Oregon. This marked the beginning of her 23-year service!

Experience life at sea as it was in the age of sail! Explore the shipyards of the Clyde, enjoy fascinating exhibitions, and don't forget to visit the popular café on board. Walk the decks and imagine the thrilling voyages through storms and sunshine that Glenlee experienced during her time at sea!

Gleenlee's History

Glenlee was crafted to keep local trades bustling, and her first owner was a relative of the builder, Anderson Rodger. Before long, she was sold to Robert Ferguson, a ship owner from Dundee, and renamed Islamount. Under this new name, she traded for 20 years.

Today, Glenlee proudly floats once again on the River Clyde, at a special berth beside the stunning Riverside Museum designed by Zaha Hadid.
