Disney's Hercules is a 1997 animated musical fantasy film that follows the story of Hercules, the son of the Greek gods Zeus and Hera. As a baby, Hercules is kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld, and turned into a mortal.
Raised on Earth, Hercules discovers his divine heritage and learns that to return to Mount Olympus, he must become a true hero. With the help of his friends Pegasus and Philoctetes (Phil), Hercules embarks on a journey to prove himself. Along the way, he battles various monsters and villains, including Hades, who seeks to overthrow Zeus.
The film is known for its vibrant animation, catchy gospel-inspired songs, and a mix of humour and compelling story-telling. It is regarded as one of the best Disney films from the Disney Renaissance era (1989 to 1999).
In 2025, Hercules debuts as a musical on London's West End at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
