The Scotch Whisky Experience is located in the Old Town of Edinburgh, beside Edinburgh Castle.
Edinburgh is the perfect city to explore by foot and is a walkable destination. The city is built on seven hills with amazing public transport. The postcode for The Scotch Whisky Experience is EH1 2NE.
By foot:
The Scotch Whisky Experience is in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre and therefore within easy walking distance of the main transport links and central hotels and attractions.
By train:
The nearest railway station is Waverley Station (0.6 miles away). There are taxi ranks located outside of the railway station at the Market Street exit.
By bus:
There are no buses that go directly to the Scotch Whisky Experience however there are many stops in the surrounding area.
Buses 3, 5, 7, 8, 14, 30, 31, 33, 37 and 49 all cross over, and stop on North Bridge; it is then a 0.4 mile walk to the Scotch Whisky Experience.
By tram:
Edinburgh Trams offer a tram service from the airport, which stops 0.5 miles from the Scotch Whisky Experience. For information about city tram ticket options see Edinburgh Trams website.
By car:
When entering Edinburgh following signs for 'city centre' and 'attractions'. You can approach from Johnston Terrace, The Mound leading to Bank Street, George IV Bridge and the Lawnmarket. The High Street and Ramsay Lane are closed to traffic.
There is a multi-storey car park on Castle Terrace. The postcode for your satnav or GPS is EH1 2EW and it is located 0.4 miles from the main entrance of the Scotch Whisky Experience. Alternative parking can be found on Grassmarket, where available.
By bike:
Edinburgh has many cycle lanes within the city centre, unfortunately there are no bike racks or bike storage for use on-site, but Johnstone Terrace behind the building has plenty of railings. The nearest secure storage is at Waverley Train Station (0.6m away) where there are 2-tier racks.
Yes there is full disabled access. The entrances have automatic doors and there is a lift to access each level of the building. There are disabled toilets, as well as loop technology, audio guides and BSL & ASL. Assistance dogs are also welcome.
The Silver Tour is suitable for children. Children will instead recieve a glass of Irn Bru, Scotland’s national soft drink. Along the tour, they will be given a trail to follow 'Peat the Cat'.
The Gold Tours is strictly for over 18's only.
The tour is fully guided by staff. The tour is conducted in English, but audio guides are available in 20 languages.
No, the Scotch Whisky Experience does not produce its own whisky. It is instead a visitor experience that incorporates the many facets of whisky-making, from production to blending, tasting, history and heritage.
In the interests of security, you can not store luggage in the Scotch Whisky Experience. However, since the majority of the tour is spent sitting down, you are welcome to take your luggage with you as you go around.
