Surround yourself with nature

A forest rich in history, we recommend taking the white trail to see what you can discover.

If you’re visiting in spring, walk through the impressive sycamores and you’ll be lucky enough to see the ground laced with a carpet of bluebells.

Pop your binoculars in your bag and look out for the array of birds who live in the forest. Perhaps you'll see a flycatcher, or maybe even a brambling with its beautiful orange breast and white belly.

You could even bring along your bird-identifying book and impress everyone with your knowledge. We bet your friends will be calling on you for years to come when it comes to the pub quiz.

Soak up the history

Along the white trail, you'll love listening to the sound of the birds singing and the trees rustling in the wind.

As you take the family along a peaceful walk through the woodland, pause and take a deep breath of the fresh air filled with the scent of beautiful wildflowers.

Look out for the Betty Kenny Tree which is said to be over 2000 years old. A family once lived in the large yew tree and it's thought that Betty rocking the baby to sleep in one of the hollowed-out branches actually inspired the nursery rhyme ‘Rock-a-bye Baby’.
