Take a trip on one of the best things to do in Manchester for foodies with Scranchester's Ancoats Food Tours
Ancoats is the world's first industrial suburb where an award-winning "hip-hop chip shop" sits alongside a Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant. Join Scranchester in discovering the secrets of Ancoats in a real treat for all kinds of foodies as you embark on a culinary tour of this famed Manchester neighbourhood.
This 3-3.5 hour food tour tells you the story of how a rural landscape on the outskirts of Manchester was transformed into one of the most densely-populated industrial landscapes in the world. Ancoats' multi-storey steam mills were hailed as a marvel of the Late Georgian era. Discover all about them, as well as tales of Victorian street gangs, Italian ice cream empires and satanic mills as you dive deeper into this eccentric neighbourhood's history.
After years of decline, the late 90's transformed Ancoats into one of Time Out's "50 hippest neigbourhoods in the world" as it became a must-visit place for foodies at the heart of Manchester's food and drink scene. This tour will show you around some of the very best independent eateries and bars, while uncovering Ancoats' history. Make sure you come hungry!
