Nestled within the Shakespeare's Globe complex on Bankside in Southwark, London, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is an enchanting indoor theatre that transports visitors back to the candlelit playhouses of Shakespeare's era

Named in honour of the Globe's founder, Sam Wanamaker, this playhouse is a tribute to his vision of recreating the authentic experience of 17th-century theatre.

Unique Features

One of the most captivating aspects of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is its use of over one hundred beeswax candles to illuminate performances!

This creates an intimate and magical atmosphere, reminiscent of the theatres known to Shakespeare and his contemporaries. The playhouse also boasts a beautifully painted ceiling, inspired by an early 17th-century mural from Cullen House in Scotland.
