Piccadilly Theatre
Up for a night in the West End?
Piccadilly Theatre is one of London’s most famous West End theatres. Located just beside the world-famous Piccadilly Circus, it has been a magnet for box office hits for almost a century.
The theatre is easy to spot thanks to its grand exterior and flashing lights, as well as simple to get to since it’s right next to the Piccadilly Circus tube station. The building is a striking sight, peering around the corner of Denman Street in a unique curved shape.
Inside, the antiquated interior will take your breath away. The walls are lined with intricate gold decorations, and you’ll feel like royalty when you take your seats and gaze at the fantastic safety curtain, reminiscent of a beautiful ancient tapestry.
A history of hits
Piccadilly Theatre first opened in 1928, and quickly became a full-time cinema. In fact, it boasts the amazing accomplishment of being the first place in the whole of the UK to show a talking picture.
Since returning to its original capacity as a theatre, the theatre has hosted many prestigious shows and felt the presence of countless amazing stars, including Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen.
The Royal Shakespeare Company has performed there many times and the multi-award winning Jersey Boys was transferred there.
Henry Fonda also made his West End debut there with the play, Clarence Darrow. The theatre also set the stage for Adventures in Motion Pictures’ Swan Lake, which would go on to have the West End’s most commercially successful ballet season ever.
Fantastic facilities
Piccadilly Theatre has a range of facilities to make your visit there comfortable and memorable.
If you want a snack or a drink before the performance, the theatre has its own classy piano bar styled after a 1930s establishment, complete with live music performances that will transport you back in time.
There's also the Tanqueray Gin Bar, where you can unwind and enjoy a range of high quality gins.
When the show is starting, you’ll make your way to the auditorium, which seats over 1000 people and has amazing balcony views. There are spaces available for wheelchairs, as well as equipment for deaf or hard of hearing guests.
Then, you’ll sit back and relax as the curtains open and the show begins!
We’re sure that Piccadilly Theatre will stick in your mind as one of the greatest theatres you’ll ever have the pleasure of seeing and that, no matter what you go to see there, you’ll have a fantastically fun visit. Why not have a look and see what’s on there today?
