Menier Chocolate Factory
Based in Southward Street, this Off West End theatre is not quite what you'd expect from a chocolate factory. It is an award-winning venue comprising of a theatre, restaurant, bar and rehearsal space.
Hailed by the Evening Standard as being "one of the most dynamic fringe venues in London", the Menier Chocolate Factory stages plays, and musicals, and hosts live music as well as stand-up comedy.
Awards galore!
The theatre which, as the name suggests, occupies an old chocolate factory that had been abandoned has received a myriad of awards over its history.
Just a year after its opening, the theatre received the Peter Brook/Empty Space Up and Coming Venue Award as well as theĀ Evening Standard Milton Shulman Award of Outstanding Newcomer.
This streak continued in 2007 when the theatre held the production of the Stephen Sondheim musical Sunday in the Park with George, which won 5 Olivier Awards.
2009 saw more Olivier Awards for Chocolate Factory productions with Douglas Hodge winning Best Actor in a Musical for his performance of Zaza in La Cage aux Folles, which won an award for Best Musical Revival.
It may not be edible, but we think seeing a show here is the best sweet treat for you as well as friends and family.
