Ennerdale is arguably one of the most beautiful areas in the whole of Britain.
Situated at the edge of the Lake District National Park, this World Heritage Site is a massive wilderness with diverse, magnificent landscapes.
So much to discover…
As you explore breathtaking Ennerdale, you’ll pass lakes, rivers, and even waterfalls. There are historical buildings here too, with the ruins of medieval and even Iron Age settlements.
If you’re looking for peace and quiet, you'll want to visit Ennerdale Water. It's one of the quietest and most tranquil lakes in the area, so you can enjoy your trip in serene peace.
When you come to this place, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were suddenly dropped into the wilderness of Scandinavia.
Also be sure to check out Pillar Rock, a massive rock formation that climbers have been scaling since the early 19th-century.
Despite it being so huge, this rock can be surprisingly difficult to find. See if you can spot its tip from the shores of Ennerdale Water.…and so many ways to discover it.
Exploring this place is no problem
There are five walking trails stretching across 30 miles of paths.
It's also the perfect place to bring your dogs or go for exciting activities like cycling, orienteering, and even horse riding.
But don’t worry if you’re looking for something more relaxed: there’s an easy access trail here as well, so you can enjoy a more mellow walk while still getting to experience the stunning scenery.
An alfresco lunch
If all that adventuring has tired you out, bring a packed lunch and recharge in the picnic area. It’s hard to think of a more serene setting for a bite to eat!
Be sure to also stop by the Gather, a community-owned visitor centre with its own shop and café.
Ennerdale is a truly stunning retreat, and for those who want an action-packed outing, it doesn’t get much more wild than this place.
We promise you’ll be blown away by the remarkable surroundings!
