Visit the beautiful Highclere Castle and see behind the scenes of the iconic Downton Abbey TV series & films

Get tickets to Highclere Castle, an iconic English country house located in Hampshire, UK, renowned both for its architectural grandeur and its role as the primary filming location for the popular television series Downton Abbey.

The castle exemplifies the Jacobethan style, blending elements of both Jacobian and Elizabethan architecture. Completed in 1842, it stands on the site of an earlier house, which itself replaced a medieval palace. Highclere Castle is the seat of the Earl of Carnarvon, and its rich history really isn't something to miss!

What to expect on your Downton Abbey adventure

  • Your tour begins in Oxford, the city of dreaming spires, boasting one of the world’s greatest - and oldest - universities, as well as some of the finest architecture in Europe. A walking tour of Oxford with the expert guide is included before some free time to grab a bite to eat!
  • Next, you head for the beautiful village of Bampton in Oxfordshire. Bampton is the setting for the exterior village scenes in the ITV series of Downton Abbey.
  • Visit The Church; see Matthew Crawley's mother's house, the hospital, and current people's homes which are transformed into the Post Office, as well as various pubs. In the "hospital," which is the public library, there is also the Vesey room where the Bampton Archive is housed, and various local exhibitions are set out.
  • Downton memorabilia - Beautiful cards, prints and mugs as well as books of the filming are all on offer to purchase.
  • Leaving Bampton, you then head for Highclere Castle!
